The Critical Role of Precision Grading in Poultry Processing
Poultry grading is not merely about sorting products; it is the mechanism that optimises portion value recovery, eliminates giveaway, and ensures compliance with customer weight specifications across all markets in Southern Africa. In an environment where margins are tightly managed and customer weight specifications vary between retail, wholesale, and food service, accurate weighing and grading are essential to consistent product quality and throughput. Reliable, high-accuracy grading technology converts raw processing volume into predictable, high-value output, directly affecting the processor’s bottom line.

BAADER TrueGrader 1810
The BAADER TrueGrader 1810 is a compact, industrial-grade weighing and grading system built for simplicity and mechanical reliability. Unlike traditional belt systems, it uses individual cups to weigh each piece independently, processing up to 250 pieces per minute with an accuracy deviation of less than ±1 gram.
The machine is optimally rated for a product weight range of 10g to 350g per piece and handles fresh or frozen (IQF) products up to 200 mm in length. It is highly suited to facilities with limited floor space, and optional features allow for further configuration to meet specific operational requirements.

Key Operational Benefits
Mechanical Design and Reliability
The TrueGrader 1810 uses a single-motor configuration. Compared to traditional belt graders with multiple motors per lane, this reduces the number of mechanical components requiring maintenance and the associated risk of unplanned downtime.
Proximity sensors replace photoelectric sensors for product detection, eliminating the ejector timing issues common with photoelectric systems. The machine contains no modular plastic belts, which removes a known source of mechanical failure and reduces the risk of foreign material contamination on the processing floor.
Infeed and Labour
The TrueGrader 1810 uses a semi-automated infeed system. This reduces the number of operators required at the grading station compared to manual or traditional belt grading setups, allowing labour to be redeployed elsewhere on the line.
Process Flow

- Incoming product from production
- Operator(s) to fix doubles (to ensure individual portions)
- Weighing zone
- Doubles / out-of-spec drop-off
- Drop-off zones
- Cup tilting and rinsing
Operating Modes
The TrueGrader 1810 supports multiple operating modes to accommodate different batching and weighing requirements, allowing the machine to be configured for varying production scenarios without mechanical changes.
